Orthopedic and Pain Management Certificate Course
The Orthopedic and Pain Management Certificate Course is designed for practitioners seeking to gain the practical knowledge and skills to have a comprehensive approach to treating common musculoskeletal conditions. Upon successful completion, participants will have in-depth knowledge and the skill set to work with clients from an Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage approach. Continuing education certificates will be awarded at each level of the course completed for the number of contact hours specific to the course level completed.
The progression of the course allows you to begin at an introductory level, move through the core instruction of upper and lower body conditions, receive instruction on client assessment and care, and finalize with on-going study groups. All instruction is provided in a classroom setting allowing you to interact with the instructor at each step of your progression. You will bring information regarding your specific clients to the on-going study groups and we will focus on your individual case studies together. Personal instruction is important; so class sizes are small to accommodate attention to each student.

Intro to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage
One Day Course

This course introduces therapeutic process, assesses clinician knowledge as it relates to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage and lays the groundwork for clinician skill development.

The goal of this course is to continue to help the clinician develop his/her own skill as it applies to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.

Instruction is focused on core stabilization and its importance as it relates to the effectiveness of treatment.
Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage - Lower Body
Three Day Course
Prerequisite: Intro to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage

This course focuses on lower body conditions as pertaining to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.

The goal of this course is to provide the clinician with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the most common lower body conditions that pertain to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.

Instruction is focused on the following conditions: low back pain, sciatica, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, inversion ankle sprain, shin splints, anterior-lateral shin splints, anterior compartment syndrome, posterior medial shin splints, and stress fractures.
Day One – Instruction

Day Three – Morning: Hands-On
Afternoon - Integration of the upper body focusing particularly on the transition from a side line to a supine position. It is critical to know how to integrate the upper and lower body mechanics.

Three Day Course

Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage - Lower Body
- This course focuses on upper body conditions as pertaining to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.
- The goal of this course is to provide the clinician with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the most common upper body conditions that pertain to Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage.
- Instruction will be focused on the following conditions: rotator cuff tear pain, supraspinatus tendonitis, bicipital tendonitis, thoracic outlet problem, and frozen shoulder syndrome.

Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage - Lower Body
Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage - Upper Body
The Assessment Skills course focuses on integrating upper and lower body conditions and treatment. This is an advanced course designed specifically to address difficult cases, acute and chronic in nature.
The course is designed to help the clinician build assessment skills, a therapeutic skill set, and strategies for orthopedic conditions. The massage therapist should come prepared with questions and concerns regarding clients and the conditions they face. The instructor will focus on helping the clinician to apply knowledge that incorporates:

Physiological landmarks where muscles, ligaments and tendons attach. (Including PSIS – Posterior Superior Iliac Spine, ASIS – Anterior Superior Iliac Spine, the Greater Tubercle).

Assessing muscle imbalance

Integrating assessment skills and therapeutic modalities (i.e., orthopedic and pain management, myofascial release, trigger point, Kinesio® taping) in order to obtain optimum therapeutic results

A quick assessment for a starting point at each session
This course provides continued theoretical instruction in the field of Orthopedic and Pain Management Massage for both upper and lower body conditions. Theoretical instruction includes advanced training in assessment and treatment of the following conditions (including but not limited to) low back pain/sciatica, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, frozen shoulder syndrome, supraspinatus tendonitis, rotator cuff tear pain and bicipital tendonitis. The clinician should be able to utilize assessment skills and treatment strategies to promote therapeutic healing and treatment progress.

Assessment Skills

The focus of this course is to provide the opportunity for clinicians to bring questions and concerns that they have on behalf of their difficult cases and the conditions that they are treating. It will help the clinician assess, apply clinical information, and integrate therapeutic knowledge when faced with difficult cases. It is designed to support the clinician in a small group setting, (8 – 12 people), for continued learning and application of clinical conditions. This environment allows for individualized learning and focused instruction.

The goal of this course is to provide the opportunity for ongoing study of orthopedic conditions and pain management. It will teach the clinician to integrate clinical information, ongoing assessment skills, and practical application to develop the clinician’s therapeutic skills.

The instruction supports clinicians through supervision and clinical reinforcement as it relates to his/her case and the people with whom they are working with. It provides clinicians with the ability to apply practical application of clinical information regarding individual questions and concerns related to difficult cases.

Groups are designed to meet the level of the clinician and are set up based upon clinician knowledge base and skill set.
